What Kinds Of Cockroaches Are There In San Diego?

There are four species of cockroach in San Diego; American cockroach, Brown-banded cockroach, German cockroach and the Oriental cockroach. Of these, the German cockroach is by far the most common as well as the toughest to eradicate. The German cockroach produces more eggs and has the most filthy habits of the four cockroach species in California. German cockroaches carry numerous pathogenic organisms on their bodies, potentially spreading these diseases to humans.

The American cockroach is the largest of the species in San Diego. American roaches are mahogany red, fully winged and can fly. Brown banded cockroaches require very little water and will be found throughout the structure. Oriental roaches are the second largest species. Oriental cockroaches are dark black and spend most of their time outdoors, moving indoors as environmental conditions become inhospitable.
